Rural Roots

Rural Roots is a project to initiate and support the creation of local history groups in three rural communities in the East Riding of Yorkshire. The emphasis of Rural Roots will be on assisting people to engage with their heritage and provide them with the skills to do so in places where existing community history groups have not reached.

The community outreach officer will use the ‘Community Involvement in Museums, Archives and Libraries Toolkit for Improving Practice’ as a model for establishing links with community groups and making contacts. Following consultation with the communities, the project will digitise relevant resources from the archives, local studies and museums collections. The groups will learn new skills through researching and creating information packs to encourage further involvement in community history. The information packs and digital resources produced will reach a wider audience through use in schools and on the Internet.
