About Archives 4 All
What is Archives 4 All?
Archives 4 All is an aUK (Archives UK consortium) programme to make archives more appealing and more accessible through activities and projects.
What are its goals?
Archives 4 All aims to bring new and more diverse material into a fully searchable online catalogue, enabling more people to learn about the many strands of heritage in England. Archives 4 All has encouraged Archivists to work with people who are not currently using archives in an attempt to broaden their audiences.
What are the benefits for communities and partners?
Archives 4 All has helped to create close bonds between community groups and Archives and allows for an exchange of information and interests. Participants have had the chance to learn new skills, or put existing abilities into action in a new environment.
What are the benefits for Archives?
The programme has helped establish connections and to strengthen links with areas of the community who have previously not been involved with archival practice.
The projects have allowed Archives to expand into new and exciting areas, making use of technology such as digitised images, sound and video clips to deliver a better service.
What are the benefits for Users?
Users can access a wide range of records through one site. Adding a community archives dimension increases the sources and subjects open to users and provides information about a greater range of society.
