30-year rule review - consultation period extended

13 March 2008

Last year the Prime Minister commissioned an independent review of the '30-year rule', under which most government records are transferred to The National Archives and made available to the public by the time they are 30 years old.

The review, chaired by Paul Dacre, working with Professor David Cannadine and Sir Joseph Pilling, is now in progress and will report to the Prime Minister and the Lord Chancellor by summer 2008.

Contribute your views

The review team has extended the consultation period for members of the public. You can contribute your views to the 30-year rule review until Monday 14 April 2008 by filling in the online questionnaire.
