The National Archives launched its mobile website on 14 August 2007. With the growing trend of using mobiles and PDAs (personal digital assistants) to access the Internet, we hope you will find this a useful service.
We have kept the website minimal offering relevant information to meet the needs of users on the move. You can expect to find:
If you are able to connect to the internet on your mobile or PDA look for the option to either Enter address or Enter URL. Type in http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/mobile to connect. The homepage has a list of options you can select from to see the content of your choice.
The website was built in XHTML Basic 1.1 using external CSS stylesheets. Currently there is no WAP version available.
Phone companies and network providers have implemented and continue to implement different ways of rendering web pages on mobiles. This is largely due to the lack of standards for creating mobile web content in the past. This has led to variations not only between personal computers and mobiles, but also from one mobile device to another.
With the publication of recognised standards and their adoption by phone companies and network providers, future devices will provide more consistent web page rendering on mobiles.
We are constantly striving to improve our services. If you would like to send us comments or feedback about our mobile website, please email: mobile@nationalarchives.gov.uk.
