Place and society in Edwardian England: the Valuation Office survey

Thursday 30 July, 14:00 - 15:00

The records of this vast survey date from 1910 to 1915 and show the use and value of lands and buildings, and their owners and occupiers.  They contain a wealth of detail about people and places as they were around the time of the 1911 census.

Rose Mitchell is map archivist at The National Archives. She is co-author of a book on maps for family and local history in The National Archives and has written and given talks on these topics, and on a range of other subjects including sixteenth-century maps (her particular interest), military maps, sea charts, maps during the colonial period and on map cataloguing.

This is a free event. Tickets will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis on the day and cannot be booked in advance.

You can listen to previous talks given at The National Archives on our Podcast page.
